Molasses Cookies
December 13, 2022 • 0 comments
Baking molasses cookies was an annual holiday tradition growing up. Grandma would often have a batch of the dough pre-made at holiday gatherings. The grandkids cut them out cookie cutters and decorate them with M&M's, pecans, colored sugar and more before baking.
Ingredients
- (1 cup) Sugar
- (1 cup) Lard
- (2 cups) Molasses
- (1 cup) Sour Cream
- (2 tsp) Baking Powder
- (1 tsp) Baking Soda
- (1/4 tsp) Cloves
- (7 or 8 cups) Flour
Directions
Mix sugar and lard until cream; add molasses and sour cream. Add 1 cup flour, baking powder, baking soda and cloves to the mixture and mix well. Add remaining flour.
For easier rolling and cutting, cover and refrigerate the dough for two hours.
Roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut cookies with cookie cutters and place on a baking sheet. Decorate as you wish with candies, nuts, colored sugar, etc. Bake for 9 minutes at 350 degrees.
(These are the cookie cutters I used for the cookies in the photo.)
